Social Media Seminar Explores Use of Online Resources

social media

On Thursday, May 5, OA USA representatives conducted a morning online chat in regards to social network outreach. A video presentation was recently created, and sent out to ministry leaders. The video showcased key errors many minsters are making when advertising the various church activities to the general public.

After a short moment of prayer, the representatves fielded questions from those who were still unsure how to use social networks for outreach. The time of questions led to the announcement of future video presentations that will go more in depth on the subject.

"...we need to understand what the purpose of social media is and how it is most used effectively. Most of you already know how to use Facebook, Google, Youtube, etc. The internet is not something new to you. It's something available to you, and you all are very familiar with it. But there is a difference between using something successfully and using something poorly." Said one representative John Vivian.

Finally, John exhorted the audience of ministers to do as Paul said, "to the Jews, I became like the Jews; to the Greeks, I became like the Greeks." This is the heart that you have to have when you go and do social media. If you do not understand the culture when you post an advertisement or post an outreach flier, you will not be successful.
